Away – The Carry-On

When I started hearing about the Away carry-on, I initially dismissed it as another Instagram hype job. The bags look stylish and elegant, but what about the quality? I was cynical. Until I got to use one on a week-long stay in Lisbon.

TL;DR – This carry-on made my week-long trip to Lisbon smoother than it would be with any other hardshell carry-on. It truly feels like a lightweight closet with a power point to charge my phone. Will be mine and my wife’s first choice carry-on for future trips.

Who is this bag for?

Being someone who works and travels remotely between different cities around Europe, the carry-on is a perfect companion. On my trip to Lisbon, my wife and I both used the smaller one. The Away carry-on is ideal for anyone looking to get away for 5-7 days. The bigger carry-on would be ideal for 5-7 days too with some space for a little shopping.

Durability

My wife’s suitcase still looks unscathed despite her accidently dropping it down a flight of stairs on our first day in Lisbon. From experience and from other experts opinions and reviews, all polycarbonate suitcases are vulnerable to some scratches.

I would also like to say that the 360 wheels seem sturdy enough to smoothly roll on all surfaces without deteriorating.

Compressibility

I tend to pack a few extra bits of clothing and have trouble fitting everything in. The compressor really helped squeeze those extra trousers and gym clothing. As a bonus it has a laundry bag to store all your dirty clothing.

Ejectable battery to change your iPhone or iPad

With many airlines banning smart luggage with chargers, the Away carry-on has a detachable unit that you remove when on the plane. This charging unit has been a life-saver when I needed to charge my iPad before the flight.

Final thoughts

Overall, this might possibly be the best carry-on for anyone that frequently travels on trip that last 5-7 days. If you are going on longer trips, you may want to check out something larger.
